Three major state parks lie within a 10-mile radius of Ithaca. All are famous for their gorges, waterfalls, exceptional camping, swimming, recreational facilities, magnificent hiking and cross-country ski trails. Numerous City parks include Cass Park with acres of open space, lighted ball fields and tennis courts, an Olympic-size pool, picnic areas and roller skating/ice skating rinks. Allan Treman State Marine Park, the largest inland marina in New York State with 400 berths, is located nearby for use by sailing and boating enthusiasts. The City's well-kept municipal golf course and other nearby links make Ithaca a paradise for golf enthusiasts.
Cultural richness is yet another reason the greater Ithaca area is such a special place in which to live. Tompkins County is one of the most artistically rich counties in New York State. Ithaca boasts its own chamber orchestra, ballet company, opera company and several theater companies that create productions of exceptionally high quality. During the academic year, Ithaca College and Cornell University offer a season of concerts, drama, and dance productions, bringing to the area musicians and artists of world renown.
