SCOTT ADAMS, PH.D.
Vice President, Sensor Technology

Scott Adams completed his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at Cornell University in 1996. He also received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell in 1991. As an undergraduate, Dr. Adams participated in the Engineering Cooperative Program at General Electric Plastics Division as a structural analysis engineer. His graduate research focused on MicroElectroMechanical (MEMS) accelerometers and tunable resonators.

Dr. Adams’ early responsibilities at Kionix focused on product design with an emphasis on electro-mechanical device simulation. He has worked on many designs, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, high-speed relays, fluid valves, next generation data storage systems, and optical switches for Internet routing applications. From 2000 through 2003, Dr. Adams worked at Calient Optical Components, a Kionix spin-off company, designing optical switches and leading efforts to improve the production-packaging processes.

Since returning to Kionix, Dr. Adams has led efforts to develop high-speed test systems, to form a failure analysis group, to design three generations of accelerometers, and to carry out one generation of core fabrication process improvements. He has published eight technical papers, has ten patents issued and multiple patents pending.
